GRAMEENPHONE CELEBRATES VICTORY DAY
Grameenphone with the residents of former enclave, Garati, celebrated the Victory Day of Bangladesh by organizing an event titled ‘Prothom Bijoy ullash’. This is for the first time the residents of the former enclaves will be celebrating the victory day of Bangladesh officially as Bangladeshis.
Grameenphone, the leading telecom operator, in collaboration with Channel i and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, celebrated the occasion simultaneously in Dhaka (Channel i Prangon) and former enclave Garati in Panchagarh on December 16. Asaduzzaman Noor, Honorable Minister, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, and Tarana Halim, State Minister, Posts and Telecommunications were present at Garati, Panchagarh during the event.
Connection between the two events were established through live video streaming. For the first time, people in former enclaves including valiant freedom fighters had the opportunity to sing the national anthem as Bangladeshi citizens and raised the Bangladeshi flag on their roofs for the first time. Shurer Dhara, artists from Dhaka, and children of Grameenphone-JAAGO Online School joined voices with the inhabitants of Garati to sing patriotic songs via live streaming.
In view of the celebration, Rajeev Sethi, CEO of Grameenphone said, “I am certain that this day will be remembered forever as the nation comes together for the first time to celebrate a most momentous occasion that has taken 44 years to realize. Grameenphone is proud to be a part of something this special.”
Previously, Grameenphone established 3G network in Dohogram, a former enclave in Lalmonirhat, on 25th November, 2015 and became the first telecom operator in Bangladesh to do so. The whole country will join in voice and spirit with the new citizens of the country at the former enclaves on this special day.
