May 17, 2007

Grameenphone has recently donated a microbus and three computers, in addition to a financial contribution, to the Tauri Foundation, which runs the School for Gifted Children in the city. The school is involved in providing special education to physically and mentally challenged children.

The donation was a continuation of the support lent to the Foundation by Grameenphone. This is the second time Grameenphone has made a donation to the Tauri Foundation for the benefit of its school program. The School for Gifted Children provides special education and necessary therapies (speech therapy, physiotherapy) to the mentally or physically challenged children.

The event took place at the Grameenphone office today, and was attended by Mr. Frank Fodstad, Deputy Managing Director and Ms. Marufa Hossain, Director of the Tauri Foundation.

Speaking about Grameenphone's many CSR initiatives, Mr. Fodstad, stressed not only on the importance of education, but also on the importance of access to education and the availability of resources which facilitate the learning process, especially for the gifted children in our society. He added, “As a responsible corporate citizen of this country, Grameenphone is committed to helping the people of Bangladesh in the country's pursuit of sustainable development, through empowerment and capacity building. “
