Telenor Youth Forum 2018: Empowering the youth to reduce inequalities

[Dhaka, May 7, 2018] The sixth edition of Telenor Youth Forum (TYF) rolls out with the call to action “Bright minds, reducing inequalities”. TYF 2018 is looking for talented individuals to represent Bangladesh at the global center stage of youth empowerment. TYF 2018 was launched through a press conference today at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka.

Telenor Youth Forum in collaboration with the Nobel Peace Center brings together young leaders from around the world to develop digital solutions that reduce inequalities and empower societies. This joint initiative is based on a belief that young people can use digital technology to drive real change in the world.

This year TYF focuses on “Bright minds, reducing inequalities” through projects that address Safer Internet, Digital Identity, Big Data for Social Good and Decent Working Condition.

During the launching ceremony, Mahmud Hossain, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Grameenphone said, “Bangladesh is a young country with an even younger population. Meaning this country not only has the “thinkers”; but also the “doers”. Here lies the great potential of Bangladesh. At the 5 previous TYF events, delegates from Bangladesh immensely contributed to the platform’s ambition of tackling social challenges through digital solutions and I believe this year will be no different”. Syed Tanvir Husain, acting Chief Human Resource Officer and Sayed Talat Kamal, Head of Communication, were also present at the event.

TYF 2018 will kick off in Bangladesh from May 8, 2018 and the application process will remain open until July 31, 2018. Applications can be submitted at: https://www.telenor.com/youthforum/apply-for-tyf-2018/

University students, academics, opinion leaders, young professionals, entrepreneurs, and innovators between the ages of 20 and 28 can apply. Applications will be shortlisted through a defined selection process culminating with two final delegates. Finalists from TYF 2018 Bangladesh will commit to the program for one year which includes gatherings in Oslo and Bangkok. Throughout this period, they will work as a team to create dialogue and engagement around the aforementioned social challenges. They will work in collaboration with the overall aim to foster prosperity by reducing inequalities and ultimately promoting peace.

The Bangladesh episode of TYF will conclude with a grand finale where two final delegates will be shortlisted to represent Bangladesh in Oslo. This year, delegates from Bangladesh, Denmark, Malaysia, Myanmar, Norway, Pakistan, Sweden and Thailand will be attending the global kick-off event in Oslo, Norway from December 8- December 11, 2018.
