Unveiling of the artifacts from Wari-Bateshwar

Artifacts unearthed from the historical site of Wari-Batershwar were unveiled to the guests, journalists and photographers today at the excavation site in Wari, Narsingdi. The unveiling program was organized at the excavation site to wrap up the season's excavation efforts. The excavation effort is being undertaken by Oitihya Onneswan and being sponsored by Grameenphone Ltd.
The main attractions of this season's unveiling session were Bangladesh's primitive brick constructions, human habitation in pits, roads and numerous other relics such as sandwich glass beads, earthenware, and ancient silver coins that have been excavated from the site. The next phase of the work will be the analysis and documentation of the excavated artifacts. Next season's excavation efforts are expected to commence from September 2007.
The chief guest of the program was Prof. Muntasir Mamun, Chairman, Department of History, Dhaka University. The special guests of the program were Prof. Hashem Khan, renowned artist, Dr. Shafiqul Alam, Director, Archeological Department of Bangladesh, and Kafil H.S. Muyeed, Director, New Business Division, Grameenphone Ltd. The program was chaired by Prof. Dr. A.K.M. Shahnawaz, Advisor to Oitihya Onneswan.
