Compassion in Crisis: Our Commitment to Support Community Recovery
Since its inception, Grameenphone has been actively supporting distressed communities during disaster times. Grameenphone extended its support during numerous calamities such as Cyclones SIDR and AILA, the Rana Plaza collapse, landslides, cold waves, and various floods. During COVID-19, Grameenphone massively supported the affected community and frontliners. Over the years, Grameenphone's support has impacted over a million individuals across the country.
Major Interventions
- Cyclones SIDR and AILA: Besides providing relief and cash support to the Chief Advisor's fund, Grameenphone constructed four school-cum-cyclone shelters named 'Alookdweep' as a long-term solution to save lives during cyclones.
- Rana Plaza Collapse: Beyond various forms of relief efforts, the company rehabilitated 300 affected individuals by offering them opportunities to become Grameenphone FlexiLoad retailers.
- Countrywide Flood in 2017: Through the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Grameenphone provided clean drinking water, relief, and medical consultation with free medicine, supporting more than 300,000 individuals across 31 districts.
COVID-19 Response
- Medical Grade PPE: The company provided 50,000 sets of medical-grade PPE (KN95 masks, protective coveralls, latex gloves, and goggles) for frontline medical professionals.
- Dakche Amar Desh Campaign: In collaboration with BRAC, Grameenphone supported over 133,300 families affected by the lockdown, inspiring other organizations and individuals to contribute.
Continued Support
- 2020 Flood Relief: Partnered with the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society to support 100,000 families suffering from prolonged floods during the COVID situation.
- Chattogram Flash Flood in 2023: Provided food relief to 10,000 families, fresh drinking water, and medical consultancy with free medicine.
- Cyclone Remal and Flood in Feni in 2024: Offered food relief to 20,000 families, medical consultancy with free medicine to more than 10,000 individuals, and fresh drinking water to over 20,000 households.
