Grameenphone Conducts Eye-camp at Bagerhat
Grameenphone has organized another eye-camp in Bagerhat on 30th April 2007. The camp, held at the Smiling Sun Clinic in Bagerhat, was organized in collaboration with Sight Savers International (a group dedicated to fight blindness in developing countries), the Fair Foundation (a local NGO), and the Ad-din Eye Hospital.
The objective of the camp was to provide free eye-care services to those who are not only unable to afford potentially expensive eye treatment, but also those who do not have ready access to basic eye-care services.
The turnout at the camp was beyond the number of patients expected. More than 1400 men and women came to the eye camp for care. All the patients were screened and given the necessary eye-care services, which included free prescriptions for refractive lenses and free Intra Ocular Lens (IOL) surgery or cataract surgery, which was administered to over 150 patients.
The Deputy Commissioner of Bagerhat district Mr. Shahidul Islam was present as Chief Guest, and Dr. Sheikh Md. Zillur Rahman, Civil Surgeon of Khulna, attended as Special guest. Mr. Sheikh Aminur Rahman, Grameenphone's Regional Head (Khulna) was also present on the occasion.
Grameenphone's dedication to reaching out to those in need was applauded by all those present at the occasion. In his speech, the Deputy Commissioner expressed his appreciation of Grameenphone initiative.
This was the second eye-camp organized by Grameenphone aimed towards benefiting those who are normally deprived of basic healthcare services. The first such camp was held in March, at Cox's Bazaar where the two-day eye-camp treated a total of 1121 patients.
As a responsible corporate citizen in Bangladesh, Grameenphone is dedicated to undertaking initiatives for the betterment of the society, by addressing the needs of those who are most deprived.
